Hard Disk

Guide for care and handling for HDD

  • Always keep the HDD in an ESD bag or Seashell, or first ground yourself by wearing an ESD wrist strap connected to a properly grounded ESD mat or the bare metal of a computer chassis.
  • Place the drive flat on your work surface; never stand a drive up on its side since it is likely to fall over.
  • Hold hard drives by the sides, never by the top/bottom.
  • Do not carry more than one HDD in each hand at a time.
  • Do not stack drives.
  • Never touch or allow the circuit board to come into contact with tools or instruments.
  • Do not drop or subject to sudden shock.
  • HDD should not be handled in smoking and no clean areas.
  • Humidity from 70% to 90% reduces the chance of electrical shocks.
  • Use a silica gel moisture absorbing packets when storing drives.
  • Use a vibration isolators or 3/4 inch or thicker closed cell foam for shipping.
  • Use Non-Magnetic screwdriver only.
  • Respect the heat specifications provided with your HDD.
  • Monitor the heat when using 2 or more disks adjacent to each other.
