Media Migration and Obsolescence in Mass Storage

Automated Quality Control

Because of its standardised file structure, the data moved around a mass storage system is open to mathematically based error checking. Full decoding and visual or audio checking of quality of material is no required, nor would it necessarily pick up the extremely low level of errors that a mass storage system might conceivably allow to creep in.

Algorithmically checking the integrity of the data objects within a mass storage system allows all data, even that which is not accessed for viewing or listening for years at a time, to be validated. Dependant upon the selected file encoding(g), most low level errors due to media decay or noise in transcription can be corrected without any user every having been exposed to the damaged material.
