Selecting Your Storage Solution

To maintain an archive in a digital format, you will need to select the best way to store your assets. The first basic decision to make is whether to have assets stored as discrete items, or to store all your assets in a mass storage system.

A discrete system can use the same storage techniques as your existing archive system, as each asset in the system will be associated with its own physical media. A mass storage system however will require an entirely new way to manage your archive's storage. There are great advantages to be had in moving to a mass storage solution, but tremendous challenges as well. Select the mass storage option to explore these further, or select the discrete storage option to see how your digitised assets can be integrated within your existing physical storage system.
